Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Oli Traustason, M.D.,is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who took medical training at Loma Linda, California; Oregon Health Science University, Portland, Oregon; and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. He has served on the faculty at Loma Linda University, and an adjunct professor at both Southern California College of Optometry, Fullerton, California, and Pacific University College of Optometry, Forest Grove, Oregon. He has also taught in both China and Australia. In China, he was invited to teach the latest cataract surgical techniques to young Chinese physicians. In Australia, he was a featured speaker to the Australian Optometric Academy.
Dr. Oli was born and raised in Iceland. While attending college in England, he decided to immigrate to the United States. He completed college and the rest of his training in this country. He uses his first name because of the difficulty through the year of guests remembering, pronouncing, spelling, etc., his surname, Traustason. Everyone has a much easier time with Dr. “Oli.”
Just before to coming to Redmond, Dr. Oli associated with one of the largest cataract surgery groups in the country for 6 years. During these 6 years, Dr. Oli averaged 35-40 cataract surgeries per day, 4 days per week. He has performed well over 40,000 cataract surgeries. This wealth of experience contributes to his agile and accurate surgical technique. Less trauma to the eye means a smoother post-surgical experience.

Kristine Harvey, M.D., Dr. Oli is proud to announce the arrival of Kristine Harvey, M.D., a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained Retina Specialist. She joined the Eye Surgery Institute in July 2007. She completed undergraduate training at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire. She then graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, California. She took internship, residency training, and a 2-year fellowship in Retina at the University of California, San Diego. Her Retina training was under the world respected Retina Specialist, Michael Goldbaum, M.D. Over the course of her medical training, Dr. Harvey received Internal Medicine with Honors, Directors’ Choice Intern of the Year Award, and Medical Students’ Choice of Best Teaching Resident Award an unprecedented 2 years in a row. She also won the Fellow of the Year Award in 2007. She is also bi-lingual speaking Spanish; she has lived in Spain and has done medical training in South America, Mexico, and Malaysia.

Ronald Guiley, O.D., M.P.H., a native of Oregon, spent his early professional years in California. After completing both the Masters in Public Health and Doctor of Optometry degrees at Berkeley, California, he practiced optometry in Hollywood from 1984 until 1993. Dr. Guiley was a featured speaker at the California Optometric Association Annual Conference in 1986. He also served as President-Elect, Board Member and Bulletin Editor of the Los Angeles County Optometric Society, Los Angeles, California, 1987 to 1990.
In the early 1990’s, Dr. Guiley relocated in Central Oregon, where he engaged in private optometric practice. He established and ran Riverbend Eyecare, located in Bend, Oregon, until joining the Eye Surgery Institute in 2007. He was the President and President-Elect of the Central Oregon Optometric Physician’s Society from 1996 to 1998 and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the Pacific University College of Optometry, located in Forest Grove, Oregon.
Dr. Guiley has been a long-time provider of free vision examinations for the Bend Lion’s Club, has been a participating doctor in the national InfantSEE program and a provider for Volunteers in Medicine.
Dr. Guiley continues to be a featured speaker at many events in Central Oregon including: the Eagle Crest Resort Ironman Conference, the Central Oregon Optometric Physician’s Society meetings, optometric educational meetings at the Eye Surgery Institute, and Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association meetings. He has been a frequent guest on Good Morning Central Oregon television show discussing current topics of eye disease and eye care. He has a particular passion for the role of nutrition in macular degeneration, diabetes, dry eye and other diseases. His latest courses include a four-day session on clinical management of glaucoma, and his primary responsibility at the Eye Surgery Institute is the care of our many glaucoma patients.
